Yasir AlYasiri is an acclaimed filmmaker, writer, and producer with a career spanning over two decades across the Arab world and beyond. Holding a degree in Film History from Harris University in Florida, USA, and a Doctorate in Film Studies from the European International University in Paris, Yasir combines academic depth with creative mastery.

He began his career in 2002, carving a name for himself in the music video industry. With over 210 music videos to his credit and more than 30 prestigious awards, including Best Arabic Director for three consecutive years,

Yasir quickly became a pioneering voice in the region’s visual storytelling.

In 2009, he made his television debut with the 31-episode series Ma Asaab Al Kalam, marking the start of a transition into long-form narratives. His cinematic breakthrough came in 2012 with the film Murk Light, which was selected by over 40 international film festivals, including the Tribeca Film Festival, and won Best Film at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival.

Yasir's 2018 feature On Borrowed Time—which he wrote, directed, and produced—earned widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike. The film was selected for top-tier festivals like Palm Springs, and received a glowing review from The Hollywood Reporter, which honored it with a special screening in Hollywood.

In 2019, he directed the Egyptian blockbuster 122, the country’s first 4DX film. It dominated the box office for over a month and was named one of the 100 finest films worldwide that year.

Yasir continued to innovate in 2023 as the creator, showrunner, and director of Kaboos, Starzplay’s first original series. The anthology series was a hit, earning both critical and viewer acclaim for its bold storytelling and atmospheric tone.

In 2024, Yasir returned with HWJN—a film he wrote, directed, and produced—based on the best-selling novel. HWJNwas the opening film of the Red Sea International Film Festival, enjoyed commercial success in theaters, and was later released on top regional streaming platforms, cementing its place as one of the most anticipated Arab films of the year.
